Good Readers and Good Writers

What does Nabokov think makes a good reader? Nabokov believes that a good reader notices the details. He believes a good reader approaches each reading as being open to a brand new world a writer is creating. A good reader is one who has imagination, memory, a dictionary, and artistic sense. He believes a good reader rereads to get familiar with the content and to understand what the material is about. A good reader’s mood is adaptive to the book. A good reader uses his imagination. A good reader should have passion and patience in reading literature.

Do you agree? Yes I agree with what Nabokov thinks makes a good reader.

What do you believe are the characteristics of a good reader? I think a good reader should have a good imagination. I think understanding the words and style of the author really helps to become a better reader. I think rereading is important because there have been times where I have speed read through writing but then later came back and reread a section and found out I missed important details. Also attention to detail is important to a good reader. I think to a good reader the book version is always better than a movie version because the imagination to a reader always visualizes better scenes than a movie production could.

Do you consider yourself a good reader? I consider myself a good reader just because I read quite a bit more compared to others. I would rather read a book than have to write one because I hate writing.
